WDL's exciting new kit!

Warwick Digital Laboratory’s Visualisation Project have recently acquired a very exciting piece of kit.
The Spheron SpheroCam HDR is the only camera of its kind. The lenses used enable the camera to take a picture of the hemisphere; such as the sky or an entire room. The other lens can then be used to take panoramic shots – such as the whole city skyline. While this is impressive in itself, the camera can also replicate “real world” lighting. This means the picture captures all the luminousity you see in real life; there is no blending of light and shade that you would see from other cameras.
The impressive features of the SpheroCam have made it an ideal candidate for use within high profile advertising campaigns; particularly within the automotive industry. The camera’s ability to capture true light and shadow means millions of pounds can be saved in post production of the advertisement. More importantly, the quality and realism within the picture is vastly improved, a crucial element in product visualisation.
Professor Alan Chalmers, the leader of WDL’s Visualisation project, enthused over the new camera, “The SpheroCam really is one of a kind. The ability of the camera to capture light effectively, the quality of the picture, the realism – it will be incredibly useful and will revolutionise the way we view pictures. It can also be used to capture the details of local heritage sites, perfect for academics studying the location.”
